Jia Wu: Art & Life

Jia Wu addresses the pressing tensions and challenges of this era on both national and international scales. Her dance and dance films are her voice—tools to engage, awaken, inspire, and unite. Through these creations, she fosters connection and builds community that transcends barriers and celebrates shared humanity.

Identity & Journey

As an immigrant, a Chinese woman, and a single mother, Jia Wu has navigated shifting roles and persistent obstacles. These experiences fuel deep reflection and become art. Her works drift like ripples through time—shaped by kindness and cruelty, fairness and injustice—yet they flow into the same ever-moving river of her life’s journey. That river carries a voice and thought that are authentic, vibrant, and unvarnished—flesh, blood, tears, and laughter—which is why the work resonates with others. On this website, she traces selected works from 2007 to the present to illuminate the artist she has become.

Jia Wu is fiscally sponsored by Shawl-Anderson Dance Center, a 501c3 non-profit organization.
